About Kovalam
Kovalam, often referred to as the “Paradise of the South,” is an idyllic coastal destination situated along the tropical Malabar Coast of Kerala. This enchanting town is celebrated for its three captivating beaches, each with its own unique charm.
Lighthouse Beach, the most famous of the trio, derives its name from the iconic red and white lighthouse perched atop a rocky promontory. It provides a spectacular vantage point for panoramic views of the Arabian Sea. Sunbathing, swimming, and water sports like parasailing and surfing are popular activities here.
Hawa Beach, also known as the Eve’s Beach, is named after the topless European women who used to sunbathe here in the 1930s. It retains a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere, making it perfect for leisurely strolls along the shore, yoga sessions, or simply unwinding with a good book.
Samudra Beach, situated to the north of Kovalam, offers a more tranquil and secluded experience. It’s often frequented by fishermen, and you can witness their daily routines and watch colorful fishing boats dotting the horizon.
In addition to its pristine beaches, Kovalam boasts a vibrant local culture, with numerous Ayurvedic spas and wellness centers offering rejuvenating treatments. Traditional Kerala cuisine can be savored at beachside shacks and restaurants, allowing you to indulge in flavorsome dishes like seafood curries and crispy dosas.
Kovalam also serves as an excellent base for exploring nearby attractions, including the Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, the backwaters of Poovar, and the serene Vizhinjam fishing harbor.
